Meet Erin Metzger

Ridwell is a community-centric company and Erin is the Head of Community, so she wears a big hat. She’s worn several Ridwell hats and has seen every step from the beginning—she’s the mom of Owen, the boy who sparked an idea that eventually became Ridwell when he asked his dad (Erin’s husband, Ridwell CEO Ryan) about recycling a bag of batteries.

Get to know a little more about Erin.

What's one thing all your friends would say about you?

Erin is always the organizer—she wants to take care of things so everyone can relax and have a good time.

Why did you choose to work at Ridwell? What do you like best about it?

I love it when a business can create a positive societal impact. I love that the people at Ridwell care about doing the right thing for people and the planet rather than just trying to grow for the sake of growth.

What have you learned on the job that surprised you?

Food container recycling is incredibly complicated! There are lots of different plastics used to make things like deli trays—and what you can recycle curbside varies greatly depending on where you live.

What does "community" mean to you?

When I think about community, I think about the gift of connecting with other people who share some common ground and the ability to use that as a launching point to gain a better understanding of other humans.

What gives you hope about the future of our planet?

I’m hopeful because so many of us want to learn and experiment with how we can do things better to protect our Earth. Nobody can do it alone, but we’re strong together.
